What captured my eye about Kleins is their uniqueness in packaging on many of their products. Inspired by Australia's most famous social photographer Rennie Ellis. His photos from the 70's & 80's were often shocking, audacious and sexy, exploring the interesting, offbeat and eccentric, from the drag queens of Sydney’s King Cross to the surfers of Lorne, the photographer explored myriad subcultures, documenting intriguing characters and behaviours along the way.
Andrea Birnie, founder of Kleins was attracted to Rennie's unique take on the 1970s and that's how she created the Series range that showcases Rennie Ellis work on the packaging of products that are 100% Australian made and tested solely on Kleins Perfumery employees.
Working closely with the Director of the Rennie Ellis Photographic Archive, Andrea chose iconic shots depicting panel vans, suffers, sharpies, and graffiti for Series: Rennie Ellis.
Being a huge fan of photography, I was drawn to approach the brand to explore and review their products. I selected two soaps from the range. Starting from left to right;
No Standing Only Dancing (1974) - Organic Shea + Wild Mint - 200g, $12.00
This creamy triple-milled cleansing bar is vegetable based and enriched with Organic Shea Butter and notes of Australian Wild Mint. Lathers beautifully over all, leaving skin feeling soft and with a subtle scent of mint.
No Future (c1980) - Sandalwood + Cypress- 200g, $12.00
This creamy Exfoliating Soap features Organic Shea and ground Coffee Beans to gently buff away dry skin. Stimulating skin with it's fine granules, skin is left feeling soft and smooth.
