A picture of June Jacobs product

The June Jacobs Spa Collection is committed to producing the highest quality, luxury spa products, using the highest quality, natural ingredients. A natural botanical skincare line, June Jacobs Spa Collection formula's do not include parabens, preservatives, synthetic dyes, or sulphates and are mostly petrochemical and fragrance-free when possible.

Thanks to Sephora, Australia now has access to hundreds of overseas brands that were not accessible to us unless we travelled abroad. Having more varied choices in beauty products can sometimes feel intimidating as it can be hard to know what is suitable for our skin, this is why Sephora provide not only well knowledged staff but sample pots of almost everything they sell for you to take home and try and 9 times out of 10 you will be back to purchase what you sampled.

One of June Jacobs products I will be talking about is the Pore Purifying Facial Bath.

It is an effective, paraben and preservative free purifying cleanser with deep pore cleansing action and is formulated with natural antiseptic, tea tree oil to rid the skin of surface impurities absorbing oil and sloughing off dead skin cells. Natural anti-inflammatories, willow bark and pine bark extract will calm skin while nutrient rich algae extract acts as a humectant, retaining the moisture level of the skin.

Powerful patent pending anti-oxidant blend of white, red and green tea extracts combined with goji berry, pomegranate and grape seed extracts help to neutralise free radicals, protect skin from environmental toxins and combat the visible signs of premature ageing, leaving the skin clean, radiant and revitalised.

I wanted to point out the key Ingredients in this product as it contains quite a number of amazing ingredients.

Pine Bark Extract is derived from the tree found mainly in North America.  Pine Bark extract contains anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, which help in the prevention of ultraviolet (UV)-induced damage of the skin.

Willow Bark Extract is derived from the tree indigenous to Europe.  This oil contains many compounds such as catechins, tannins, flavonoids and the glycoside, salicin which helps to inhibit the production of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Witch Hazel Extract is derived from the shrub found in Canada which have anti-inflammatory properties and tannins, which have astringent properties to tighten skin tissue, remove excess oil and revive dull skin.

Tea Tree Oil is derived from the leaves of the Australian melaleuca tree.  It contains terpenoids, which have anti-bacterial, antiseptic and anti-fungal properties beneficial for problematic skin.

Lavender Extract is derived from the plant indigenous to the Mediterranean, containing natural alcohol, linalool, which provides lavender’s antiseptic properties by killing bacteria, reducing inflammation and aiding in the skin’s healing process.

Turmeric Root Extract is derived from the underground stem of the plant found in Asia and India.  It contains the polyphenol, curcumin which has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

Carrageenan and Algae Extract consists of many polysaccharides sugars such as Alginates, which are responsible for moisture retention and fucoidanes, which encourage circulation, playing a key role in the elasticity of the skin.

Combining all of these ingredients gives you a potent exilir of vitamins infused into the skin giving you the ultimate results for flawless skin.

Lavender is the dominate scent when you open the Pore purifying facial bath cleanser.  It's lightly scented which is really pleasant when cleansing the skin.  The consistency is quite thick, when water is added it turns into a creamy lather.

You only need a small amount for the whole face. Gently massage onto skin with a circular motion. Rinse skin thoroughly with water and pat dry. Skin is left feeling soft and supple.

There is no skin tightness or dryness.  Skin feels cleansed and cool. After applying skincare and make-up my skin still feels refreshed.  It is however, hard to squeeze the product out of the bottle.  At times it becomes challenging that I unscrew the top to get the product out.

June Jacobs Spa Collection is exclusively available at Sephora Australia. The Pore Purifying Facial Bath RRP $58 for 200ml.

A picture of Elizabeth Arden Grand entrance mascara

Elizabeth Arden will be launching their latest innovation mascara 'Grand Entrance' this April.

There are some pretty impressive claims offering dramatic volume, length and lift – could it be the perfect mascara?

Elizabeth Arden say;

“Grand Entrance Mascara amplifies lashes with every stroke. Featuring a distinctive, 3-in-1 triangular brush technology, it creates customised and dramatic lash effects. Its ergonomic curved reservoir precisely transfers the perfect amount of product onto lashes for outrageous body without clumping.”

Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance Mascara's glossy, long-wear and water resistant formula effortlessly coats lashes to separate, extend and intensify their appearance giving the result of an all-day lift and curl that won't flake, smudge or dry out.

This multi-benefit mascara boasts an emollient rich and vitamin fortified formula that conditions, treat and protects lashes. It's advanced peptide-based Last Building Complex instantly create high-definition volume and lived for false lashes effect.

The wand features a distinctive, 3 in 1 triangular brush technology to create customised and dramatic last effects.

The wand is slightly curved, with silicone bristles - the bristles are slightly flexible so they bend with your lashes making it easier to apply and curl.

The top of the wand has lots of bristles which point upwards to reach every lash on your outer corners of your lash line.

So what makes this mascara different to what is currently on the market?

Elizabeth Arden 'Grand Entrance' Mascara is made up of several key ingredients:

Lash Building Complex it's a vitamin fortified peptide complex that locks onto lashes like a magnet for volume and lift.

Olive Esters is an emollient-rich extract that coats and separates individual lashes, helping to condition, treat and protect lashes for clump- and flake-free definition.

Rice Bran Esters is a vitamin B complex and essential fatty acid-rich extract that helps to condition lashes for an overall healthier and plumper appearance.

Carnauba Esters is a moisturising extract that helps to support the appearance of longer lashes.

The word 'Esters' has been mentioned in the ingredients. I'm not familiar with the meaning, so I did some research.

Esters are an organic compound formed when an acid and an alcohol combine to release water. Animal and vegetable fats and oils are esters.

Esters are water soluble and provide outstanding emolliency and conditioning with virtually any body or beauty product.

From research and trialling, what sets this mascara apart from the rest would not only be the wand but also the ingredients to help achieve the look.

I absolutely love this mascara. As the bristles vary in length and width they coat every lash. Using the mascara for a couple of weeks I found that it never smudged, flaked or dried my lashes out.  It separates, gives volume and leaves my lashes feeling soft instead of hard and stiff. When removing my mascara, I have had less lashes fall out which is a definite plus for me.

As you can see from the before and after shots I think it's easy to say that Elizabeth Arden's claims have been proven!

The clinical tests showed the following results; 162% increase in curl, 100% of women felt that their lashes appeared longer and amplified, 96% of women felt that their lashes appeared defined with a dramatic effect and 93% of women felt that their lashes were instantly lifted.

I don't know the percentage results on my lashes but it is obviously thicker and longer.

The Grand Mascara is available Australiawide on the 17th April and RRP $42.00.  For more information on Elizabeth Arden visit their website.

As an avid traveller I have become an expert on packing light.  Over the years I've packed less and less in my suitcases, leaving me more space and weight for those amazing purchases and must-have items from countries I never know whether I will return.

A large part of my packing is my beauty bag.  This used to take up about 5kg+ of weight in my suitcase and now it is a mere 2kg, if that, which includes toiletries for three people!

These days there are numerous branded travel size personal products filling the market, making it easier for packing light, but there aren't many travel size items for skincare, so I would be either taking my full size skincare range with me or filling up containers (which I dislike doing!).

So the fab news is that starter packs or as I like to call them travel packs, has started popping up at Priceline, yay! This will save so much time and less brain confusion when packing my beauty bag. These starter packs contain the necessities that is required for your skin regime.  Cleanser, serum and moisturiser.

I've selected two of my fave brands that currently have Starter Packs.

Trilogy have just released their Limited Edition Starter Sets.  There are four types of sets including: Normal/Dry, Combination/Oily, Age-proof and for Sensitive types of skin. These limited edition sets will only be available for a limited time and will be released in-stores in April 2016.

If you haven't tried Trilogy before then this starter set is perfect to give you a sampler of what their products are all about without forking out for the full size range.

The Trilogy Starter Sets contain three travel sized products.  Not only are perfect for travelling but also perfect for the gym, pool or spontaneous rendezvous weekend.

The pack I have trialle is Age-Proof.  Perfect for any age, the Discover Trilogy Age-Proof kit is essentially made for those who want to protect, smooth and boost radiance for lacklustre or maturing skin.

Active Enzyme Cleansing Creme (30ml)- Powerful fruit enzymes break down and remove skin cell build-up and impurities while gently removing make-up for skin that is brighter softer and more refined.

CoQ10 Booster Oil (5ml) -  This oil contains Glycablend to combat skin-ageing glucation.  This potent blend of pure plant oils boosts collagen and restores radiance for brighter, smoother, more supple skin.

Line Smoothing Day Cream (20ml) - A fusion of natures most active ingredients, this nourishing cream smooths, firms and strengthens, protecting collagen and elastin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Goodness Grab & Go (try-me-kit) have also released a fabulous little trial pack.  Its Try-Me Kit is a whole bunch of chia seed oil natural skincare goodness in adorable minis. Perfect for holidaying or grabbing as a gift, it’s also ideal if you’ve been checking out the Goodness range but not yet given it a go!

There are five pieces to this pack.

Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil (5ml) - Organic certified, this oil has got the balance of omega 3 to omega 6 essential fatty acids just right. Perfect for the morning or evening. It's super silky, easily absorbed, nourishing and hydrating.

Percy & Reed have one of the most prettiest packaging on the market.  It makes my bathroom cabinet look really girly.

Paul Percival and Adam Reed are the hairdressing duo behind the brand.  With a salon in London, they decided to create their own brand that is affordable to everyone.  Their extensive range is available in Sephora Australia.  I currently have two of their products in my bathroom cupboard that I am using.

RRP $42

Shine & Fragrance Spray
This shine & fragrance spray has notes of all things that remind you of an English garden: Rhubarb, Rose , Peony, Geranium, Wood and Honey.

Love a dual-purpose product!  It sprays a fine mist over the hair leaving a subtle sheen that can be built up to get the desired glossiness that you want. Don't bombard your mane with half a can of shine, build the product up slowly to exactly what you want it to look like or you will look like you are on a hair washing strike.

I found that on my hair, it was nice and light and gave a nice healthy shine to my coloured and styling tool affected hair.

RRP $25

Invisible Dry Shampoo
If you have been following me for a while you may already know that I love my dry shampoos.

So, to discover on one that is invisible is even more exciting. Whoever is a fan of dry shampoos and have dark brown hair only knows how hard it is to make sure you are not left with white patches on your head after using it.  Even the best ones on the market sometimes are a challenge, but this doesn't stop me from using them as it's my one and only permanent staple in my haircare regime.

Normally with any dry shampoo, you spray, leave for a minute and brush it out, with this one, you spray and then massage through into the roots using your fingers. There is no white powder residue and it nicely tidies up my mane also giving me volume and control.

By the end of the day my hair still looked ok good without any evidence of oil or stickiness or flatness.

As I'm always in Sephora, browsing, testing, ahem buying, all in the good name of research!

All products are available at Sephora Australia

I've heard very little about the brand W7 until now. I did a little research on the brand and found out that W7 Cosmetics have been around for over 10 years as is one of the fastest growing budget makeup brands in the UK!

With more and more brands entering the Australian market, the cosmetic industry is becoming very competitive and for a brand to survive, they have to be quality products with an attractive price tag. Budget makeup is definitely making a strong comeback with better range of colours as well as improvement in quality.

So I am pleased to trial for you some products that were sent for my consideration, to trial.

Bronzer: I'm not much of a bronzer type of gal but this matte bronzer is ideal for contouring, I really like it. The powder glides onto the skin easily, which I like, making it easy to contour. At my age contouring is a lot more beneficial that bronzing. For the girls in their 20s or 30s bronzing is more suited. The bronzer stayed put all day, so pleased with this product.

Chunky Eyes in Coffee: I love this colour. It does have a shimmer which I like. It is more of a subtle gold colour, a colour that will complement all skin tones.

The colour isn't very pigmented as you can see if give the eye a soft shine.  The pencil is soft and creamy and glides smoothly over the lids.  Its quick and easy to use especially if you're limited in time.

Wild Lash lengthening Mascara: Packaging resembles Maybelline mascaras with its sturdy curved tube. The wand is slim with short bristles, which makes it easy to coat the smaller lashes, and has a slight hour-glass shape.

The formula is very thin and required quite a few coats to really give any impact.

The product separates every lash and does not clump giving you a more delicate look with longer lashes.

Lipstick Go West Matt Lipstick: Perfect Pink is a hot pink and is the grainiest of the lot. From a normal viewing distance (below) it doesn't look too bad, but up close... it's just not a pretty picture. And it looked so promising in the tube, too! This had the longest wear time though, lasting four and a half hours. non drying

Perfect Pink is a gorgeous block colour.  Creamy and buildable.  Apply one coat for a subtle glow or reapply to intensify the colour.  There is no shimmer or sheen but there is a slight gloss to it.

Lipstick 'Forever Red' - Is an alluring red shimmery lippy and surprisingly a nice colour.

a picture of W7 lipstick

The pigment is stronger than the Go West range.  One application is fine.  I did find the lipstick a bit gritty on the lips, not sure if its the glitter/shimmer.

Quad Eye shadow Palette in Shades of Grey: Comes in a sturdy plastic box with a transparent lid. I prefer transparent lids on eye shadows as this makes it super easy to see the colours without opening the box. The shape of the eyeshadow palette reminds me of the Chanel Les 4 Ombres palettes. Curved making it easier to get product on the brush.

a picture of eyeshadow palette

I tend to use my own makeup brushes as I find you get more control and flexibility when applying the product than you do using the applicators that normal come with eye shadows.  Regardless of the brand the small applicators are all the same.

The colours are highly pigmented and very shimmery. In the palette you can see the four stunning colours but when I swatched the colours, the bottom two colours were almost identical which I found strange as they didn't look the same on the palette.

Nail Polish in 'Pink Mirror': A nice shimmery metallic nail polish. The consistency was good and applied really well, which I'm surprised as budget nail polishes tend to disappoint me. As you can see in the nail swatch the coverage is really good and I only applied two coats. There are no streaks or lumps. An overall good nail polish.

A picture of W7 nail polish

BB Magic Cream: This BB Cream is of medium consistency.  I've never been a fan of BB creams due to the way it feels heavy on my skin but this one feels more like a foundation than a BB cream which I like.

The BB Cream Magic is not oily, blends well and provides a matt finish.  The colour I'm using is Shade 02.

In this photo I am makeup free (except for mascara).  I have applied the BB cream to half of my face so you can see the difference.  The redness on my cheek have been covered, not fully as I applied a very thin layer of the product.

BB Cream applied only to the right side of face

Photo Shoot 16 Hour foundation: It claims to be budge proof.  I used the foundation over a period of a week to see how my skin handles the product.

A picture of w7 budge proof foundation

The foundation is really creamy and blends so easily into my skin. It has fantastic coverage giving me a flawless finish.  The foundation is oil and shine free.  After a hard day at work my face still looked fresh .

There is only one downside to this product.  There is no pump!  It's a massive pain in the bum to get out! When your pushed for time in the morning the last thing you want to do is banging the glass bottle on your hand waiting for the product to come out.  I'm a messy makeup applier, I need simple and easy methods.

Light Diffusing Concealer: claims to banish imperfections effortlessly for a soft, clear complexion. This anti-fatigue and illuminating concealer leaves the skin delicate around the eye area looking radiant and smooth for up too 8 hours.

A picture of w7 light diffusing concealer

The packaging looks really similar to the Touche Eclat , golden metallic twisting pen. It looks as pricey as the YSL.

The colour I received was too pink for my skin, so when I applied it didn't look right on my face. The photo I have taken the colour looks more yellow but on my skin it looks more pink.

I can report though on the application.  I could not feel or see the difference between this product and a more superior brand.  The texture and thickness felt exactly the same.

So there you have it. A run down of some of the W7 products that I have tried. I'm extremely surprised in the quality you get for the price. You honestly can't go wrong.  Prices start from $4.99.

W7 Cosmetics is available exclusively at Chemist Warehouse, My Chemist and My Beauty Spot.

Using a good serum is more important than a really really super good moisturiser. Serums penetrate the skin much deeper so it makes sense to do your research on picking the right serum for you.

Price should never be in the picture, your concerns should be. Price is the last of your concern before buying a serum. There are hundreds on the market targeting different skins, problems and age. To find the right one for you, I have listed a simple 4 step way to choose the right one.

Steps in finding the right serum

1. You need to decide whether you want an organic, natural or chemical serum. This is the most important step in narrowing down your choices.

2. What are your skin concerns that you want to target. Whether it be pigmentation, redness, irritation, anti-ageing, hydration or all of the above.

3. Do your research, either online or speak to a consultant in a pharmacy or department store.

4. You should then have a few to choose from, this is when you can choose by brand and price.

Once you have done your research you can be confident that you have selected the right serum.

Serums can slot into your current skincare routine easily as it is a complimentary product, not something that you would substitute your regular products for, but an add-on to give you the optimum results your skin deserves.

Trilogy ticks all the boxes when it comes to price, quality and effectiveness.  Trilogy is certified by NATRUE. NATRUE is an international organisation that support brands that use natural ingredients in their products and verify it before a brand joins. This is quite comforting since there are a lot of brands out on the market that claim to use natural ingredients when they're not.

Trilogy have released a serum for consumers who have an intolerance to certain ingredients or have sensitive skin and easily irritated.

Trilogy's Very Gentle Calming Serum contains natural spring water, Chamomile and Calendula extracts for their calming benefits and soothing antioxidant-rich green tea to deliver peace and comfort to anyone experiencing a seasonal flare-up or on-going sensitivity.  It also includes a breakthrough botanical complex known as SyriCalm which is proven to help to reduce skin inflammation, strengthen the skins barrier function and increase resilience to external aggressors.

The serum has no scent, is light weight and has a slight milky colour. Upon application the serum feels light and absorbs immediately without leaving a sticky residue on the skin.  The serum has a cooling and soothing effect.   As the texture is light weight and quick to dry, this serum is a great layering product and sits really well underneath any moisturiser.

Trilogy Very Gentle Calming Serum (30ml) RRP $42.95

Trilogy products are available from selected Myer, Priceline pharmacy and health stores nationwide.  For more information , visit
