Dyson Digital Slim DC59 Animal - The Powerful Performer

If you have been following my blog for a while you would know that I am a Dyson fan and have been for over 8 years. I still have my very first machine as well as new additions that have been added, all working like a dream.  If you haven't read my previous Dyson post, you can do so here.

Since reviewing my Dyson DC44, I was really interested to see how much the Dyson has changed and whether a handheld vacuum could really be as good as a regular vacuum.  I was given the latest DC59 to trial.

My first impressions of the DC59 is that its lighter, fancier looking and easier to manoeuvre.  I noticed a few ergonomic changes.

The Dyson digital Slim DC59 is powered by a V6 motor. This 350W motor, 2 Tier Radial™ cyclones and a re-engineered nickel manganese cobalt battery combine to provide powerful suction.

The barrel is slightly larger, holding more dust and debris.

The motorised head is bigger, working more effectively and the suction, oh my goodness the grip it had on my carpet for cleaning was truly ah-mazing!

The battery release button has moved, which is an improvement as it used to interfere when gripping the handle. The release button would be pushed in and out when vacuuming and this was slightly annoying.

The handle has a slightly more angled grip, giving a better steering ability which is easier on the wrist. The attachments and dust barrel are easier to detach.

Within the first 5 minutes of vacuuming my lounge room floor, the dust barrel was visibly filling up with dust and debris.  Even though the barrel is still small, it isn't an issue with having to empty it with each use.

Hubby, being the typical male, had to do the comparison with our larger Dyson vacuum cleaner and see the results for himself, I didn't mind especially if he volunteered to do the vacuuming!

The only thing that has not improved is the duration of the battery, usually last around 20 minutes, less with the MAX button activated, which is a slight disappointment but not an issue. Considering it's cordless and lightweight I get more coverage quicker than with my plug in vacuum cleaner.

It is effective on all surfaces.  The majority of my unit has carpet, the kitchen has lino and the bathroom has tiles. I use the Dyson on all three surfaces and the results are all the same. The power suction is truly ridiculous. Even though I use it every other day, my carpet pile is raised and looks more fluffy just like if I had used my large vacuum cleaner.  I'm still amazed at how a hand held vacuum cleaner can be so powerful. I am extremely pleased with it.  It definitely lives up to its name 'Animal'!

Even though some people may think the Dyson is expensive at $649, I believe that there is no price on having more family time and less cleaning time especially being a mum and working full-time. Whatever product cuts my cleaning time I want it!

The Dyson Digital Slim™ DC59 vacuum is lightweight, cordless, and rivals the power of the larger main electrical vacuum cleaners. RRP $649 for the Animal model.

My overall rating - 5/5
