My 2013 Chanel Christmas Gift

I was looking forward to this day all year, wondering if I qualify for another wonderful Chanel christmas gift and what it would be.  Christmas was creeping fast and I was anxiously waiting for that letter in the mail or phone call inviting me in to collect my very special gift.

It finally came and I was so overjoyed I didn't let the poor guy speak.  I was finally able to pick it up after Christmas but not without indulging in their latest collection Printemps Precieux De Chanel Spring makeup 2013 Collection.

I didn't buy the entire collection, I only purchased pieces that I liked and would use.  I loved them all but I have so much I have to be more selective these days.  I decided to buy the pink nail polish, lipstick and eye shadow.

571 Fracas

Rose Favorite

42 L'├ęclatante

Photos never do justice to the actual colour of the item.  But they are all divine, the pink is so pretty and very flattering which was quite surprising as I can wear pink nail polish but for some reason lippy and eye shadow never seem to look good on me as I have olive skin, but this particular pink suits my skin tone.

Now for the best, this is what I received as my gift.  A snowglobe.  Its different from the one of last year, much smaller but so beautiful.

Nad's Bikini Laser Experience

I recently blogged about my first laser experience and I mentioned that I will be getting my bikini lasered and report back.  You can read it here.

Today was the day that I braved the bikini laser.  I  don't know what all the fuss was about.  I was so nervous this morning I thought I would be in so much pain as it can be sensitive down there that  I popped a couple of Nurofen to prepare me, but realistically I didn't need it.

I had to shave/trim the area that I wished to laser, the Laser Consultant pencilled out the area she was going to treat.  For me having a blood test is more painful than bikini laser.  It was quick and easy.  I was done in 20 minutes.

I have already booked in my second treatment in eight weeks time and I can't wait till I start seeing results.

Dyson Digitial Slim DC44

I purchased my first Dyson when I was pregnant.  Hubby was spoiling me rotten and saying yes to everything (except when I said I needed a Chanel bag)!

On a serious note, what interested me in a Dyson was its amazing features; bagless, powerful and most importantly came with a HEPA filter, perfect for asthma and for allergies (which I suffer from both).

My beloved Dyson

I was excited unpacking the box and putting it all together and couldn't way to test it out.  I have never considered myself a domestic housewife but being pregnant does something funny to the brain around house appliances and electrical's.  It was the best investment ever.  Seven years later and it still works like a dream. No service ever needed.

My only problem is being a busy mum, working part-time and all the other stuff that I seem to do to make my life hectic, I became lazy to pull out the vacuum cleaner each week, instead I would be using the carpet sweeper.  Its easier, faster and no cords to pull around.  I thought this was the best invention ever until I spotted the Dyson DC44.  I had to drag my man to the shops to look at it and try to convince him we needed one.   He was won over by its sleek look and features.  We had decided to look into it again closer to mothers day.

I attended the Bloggers Brunch (read article here) late last year and Dyson was one of the exhibitors.  After talking with a Dyson representative and expressing my love for Dyson I was offered a DC44 to trial.  I was over the moon and instantly put that poor excuse of a sweeper in the garage and replaced it with a shiny new DC44.  Whenever my girlfriends would come around with the kids I would whip it out, do a little demo and put it back in its spot.  They were impressed!

This is wear I stored my sweeper
Slimline and attractive

Ok, now down to the serious stuff.  How does it perform?

You have to admit, Dyson create beautiful machines. Compared to many handheld vacuums that are on the market and I have tried, nothing compares to the ergonomic comfort (surprising for its size), its powerful clean and ease of use. I had no idea how many uses this DC44 has.  I loved it purely because it was cordless and easy to move around furniture.  I discovered that it can also dust curtains, cornices, light shades, crevices in couches and do a helluva a job in the car.

Straight out of the box, the DC44 requires minimal assembly.  All you need to do is pick the required attachment and your ready to go.  The DC44 comes charged.  Charging takes around 5.5 hours and will last you up to 20 minutes. That seems short, but you will be amazed how much you can do without a cord.

Dusting my curtains

Dusting my wallpaper, no more dusts cloths!

Perfect for crevices in lounges

First few days it felt quite heavy on the hand manoeuvring it around but it became so easy once I got used to it.  I couldn't believe I did my whole unit in 20 minutes.  I had just made it into the computer room when the battery went flat.  In between rooms I emptied it out twice.  I had no idea how dirty my carpet was.  I thought my sweeper did a good job picking up the dust and hairs considering I was using it daily.

As an added bonus I was able to use it on lino and tiled floors as I found out when I did my kitchen and bathroom.  I no longer require a broom and duster!

This was picked up after I used the sweeper.

I had a little difficulty cleaning the head but after following instructions it was easy peasy to pull it apart and give it a thorough clean.

The Dyson Digital Slim DC44 is retailed at $549.  This is well worth the investment.  It is a little pricey but when you consider how many hand held vacuum cleaners or household cleaners you buy over time, the number of bags purchased and services done, the Dyson will pay itself off much faster than you would expect.  As I mentioned at the beginning I invested in my Dyson seven years ago and it is as effective as it was the first day I bought it thus the reason I wouldn't think twice spending that money again on a Dyson.  I always say 'you get what you pay for and you get a lot with the DC44.

My overall rating - 4.5/5

Chanel my Belle

Everyone is a collector of something whether it be magazines, toys, jewels, handbags, at the very least clothing.

I'm a Chaneloholic, there I said it. I collect all things Chanel. In trying to work out when my passion (or you could say obsession) with Chanel began, I searched deep into my past. I began recalling lovely outings with my mother as a tween. The bus trip into town to David Jones and other stores, the final pitstop was Chanel Boutique on Pitt St. My mother would chat to the assistants who knew her well whilst we browsed at the bags and clothes. I would admire the perfume bottles and their scents. On many visits the assistants would always give me a little gift to take away and I would treasure this for weeks.

I realised my mother also had a passion for beautiful things. My mum told me when she was young her father went on regular trips to Paris for business and bring back beautiful hats and clothing for her mum and she recalls some were Chanel. My mum recalls the fabric and buttons and how they were all beautifully made. Growing up my mum always made our clothes, mind you, she used to be approached my companies like DJs to make clothes for them!

Fashion houses and designers were not household names back in the 80s unless you were in fashion or media. These days even 10 year olds know the difference between a Prada and a Louis Vuitton. I was usually aware of these brands when I was a teen but had no concept of their value. I used to read articles and books about these brands but it felt it was part of the world of models and actresses only.

Over the years my collection of Chanel items grews slowly. Once I started travelling overseas I was exposed to all these wonderful brands in a much bigger way in Europe and England. This is where I gained most of my knowledge, Keeping in mind that the internet was not widely used in the 80s and 90s like it is now.

My obsession for Chanel started in England where every Boots, Selfridges and other department stores stock Chanel. Whenever I made a purchase I was given a lovely promo gift to add to my collection. I stored all my lovely things in a box. Upon my return back home to Sydney I stored alot of my collection in the garage along with wedding presents while we were renovating our unit.

Our garage got broken into and everything was taken, unfortunately we did not have insurance so we lost everything. All the material things did not matter as they were replaceable and the truth is, alot of my wedding presents were naff anyway. But the one thing that broke my heart was my 12 years of collection of rare items of Chanel. That little box of priceless items that regardless if I was insured or not was irreplaceable.

I stopped collecting anything after this incident for a few years as afraid I was of afraid it. In the year 2000, I decided to start collecting again, I couldn't help it its in my blood to collect. So my new Chanel collection began.

It started off with miniature bottles, leaflets, postcards, promotional and transgressed to books, accessories, makeup, perfume and nail polishes. This is my biggest collection 'Les Vernis'.

As you can see from the photo it is quite a large stash of nail polishes, a few have gone along the way. I do not know if I would ever get the chance to use them all up over my life time as I keep adding to them but they bring me so much joy. I don't buy just any colour, 95% of this collection is limited edition and launch colours.

My Chanel collection has expanded so much that I have half a glory box (chest) full of stuff inside them and every now and again I pull them out to look at. I will not show everything I have just my favourites. I will one day have them in special display containers and shelves as many are beautiful to display, just like my Snow globe.

Isn't it gorgeous.

It feels special when I receive gifts for being a loyal customer. Receiving beautiful items like this globe makes me want to shop more.

Anyway this is my story on how I became a Chanel admirer (it sounds alot nicer).

I never married a millionaire to shower me with Chanel and fill my house with it, maybe that's a good thing, I think there would of been a serious problem if I did, I can just imagine what my husband would say if I had married a millionaire 'it's me or the Chanel', and I would say 'Chanel darling always Chanel'.

Favourite cake designs

I'm all for a good looking cake but what use is it if it tastes like ahem.....

A good friend of mine is a cake maker.  She has decided to start her own business make cakes from scratch.  No ordering the cake and just decorating it, completely from scratch.

My friend and her husband are a team in making best tasting cake ever.  I'm not just saying that because she is a friend, it's because it's true.

I believe a cake should not only look good but taste good too.  What is the point of a fancy wancy looking cake and then it tastes crap.  She has made my son's birthday cake two years in a row and will continue for years to come.

The taste of her cakes is what makes her different from alot of the other cake makers.  Ingredients are of top quality, everything made from scratch and with love.  Did I say Lindt Chocolate?  Yes, and its to die for.  She believes in using only the best as they comes out in the flavour.

Here are some photos of cakes I've ordered from her. Pretty good considering she has only been decorating cakes for a couple of years.
